We've had an article written about our campaign by Home Education magazine in America.
You can read the article here my word how lovely that now our campaign has reached foreign shores. Why Hands Up 4 Home Ed?
There are home educating people, discussing whether autonomous or didactic, scheme or first hand, school at all? or maybe a bit of flexi time? Write it or type it? Photograph it or draw it?
Whichever philosophy we follow, or beliefs we have as home educating parents, the main thing at the centre of our endeavours is the well being, happiness and welfare of our children doing the very best for our children to ensure they reach their full potential.
We are fortunate to cater for our children in a unique one to one situation that can never happen in schools. Indeed Tony Blairs campaign for "Every Child Matters" is already our belief, but we really mean that each one of our children matter, home educating families have already been effectively living and believing this for years. The government trying to undermine our freedom of choice is undermining the family blocks this country needs to be stronger not weaker.
Our children are happy, delighted, smiley and proud about their home ed. They are empowered and reassured by having a say and real choices about their own learning and thier own future ambitions.
The government's policies and meddling ways threaten our existence, threaten our lives , our ways of living, they threaten our autonomy and are set to impose on/limit our life size curriculum into something that will suit LEA's rather than cater for our children's needs.
What can we do about it? How can we help?
I for one am rather hopless at understanding the Ps and Qs and politics of it all, but what I do understand is the welfare/happiness and rights to make choices for and with our own children.
I also understand that we need to unite ourselves in a way that is easy for everyone to understand :o)
A petition that will be colourful and exciting and will give the children a voice.
It will shout "Hey we're holding up our hands to home education, we do it and we are proud that we live it."
The children can understand and relate to Hands Up 4 Home Ed, let's yell it to anyone 'up there' who needs to hear it, lets make a BIG SPLASH.
Please can children and parents do an outline of their hands and decorate them with their first name on each palm (even supporting friends and family my sister doesn't home ed but she approves that we do - you might have others who want to do hands and say their bit)
With your beautiful pair of hands write a wish for your life, your home ed, putting your family first.
I'd love to put on letters or home ed inspiring and good news stories. One little boy has written a letter to Tony Blair . . . . . .when we have a large enough collection Tony Blair will be seeing them and will have to answer, after all every child matters, so he couldn't possibly ignore us could he??
It's useful to have your name, age and town or county or country. We aren't wanting to know exactly where you live , but a rough idea of how far spread we all are - eventually we can put dots on a world map - hey look at us :o)
Send your hands and your wishes/dreams to me at handsup4homeed@aol.com
How fantastic would it be to have thousands of hands and wishes to show how determined we are. I'll post them all on the blog and when we have thousands we can petition the gov't.
It will be a great unifying movement, whatever our views we can all join in with this.
Imagine the impact. Let's give Tony Blair "Every Child Matters" for real !!
Downing Street . . . . .well how many hands and wishes can we wave at the gates???
Children and family power, let the children tell the gov't what they want !!

Great idea... Hope your campaign goes well.
Stuart (father of 4 x home-eds)
Greg (aged 7+50!). Having watched 3 children changed by home ed (all for the good), and seen some, and only some, schools failing children, I wish you well with your campaign.
This is fantastic and gorgeous! We'll be doing ours over the weekend :-D
I like your idea. I'll ask the offspring if they want to participate. :)
Hi, this is a brilliant idea and my two kiddies have enjoyed doing their hands for the blog. Hope you got them OK. Elle
